Preconfirmations are quietly becoming the most exciting thing in L2 land. The idea is simple but the implications are huge. Get a cryptographic guarantee that your transaction will be included before it actually hits the chain.
The UX difference is night and day. Click a button, get confirmation in 100ms. No more waiting for blocks. No more watching spinners. It feels like using a normal app.
The mechanism relies on proposers putting up collateral. They commit to including your transaction and if they break that promise they get slashed. Economic security backing instant confirmations.
What I find elegant is how this composes with existing systems. You don't need to redesign your rollup. Just add a preconf layer on top. The underlying security model stays intact.
The challenge is standardization. Every L2 is building their own preconf system right now. Different APIs, different guarantees, different economics. We need convergence before this goes mainstream.
The speed is addictive. Once you experience preconfs, regular confirmation times feel broken.
